CNSISP have launched a ”virus free” office solution for our clients, using different Linux solutions.
As you are well aware windows is very vulnerable to attacks from the internet and infected files on CD's and other software media. This is mainly due to the fact that every windows PC is loaded with the same foundation vulnerability and once exploited by hackers it takes Microsoft a while to catch on and by that time its too late.

Why Linux
Linux is modular making it impossible to predict its vulnerability on a mass of computers, lets face it no-one will write a virus for a single PC, there is no glory in that.

There are however boundaries that need to be taken into account, for example if you are using a Microsoft imbedded software e.g. pastel you will not be able to use Linux, how ever there are a lot of software packages which will replace Microsoft software for e.g. Microsoft office will be replaced with Open Office that works with all the functions of Microsoft office and is able to read and write to Microsoft office documentation including excel, word, PowerPoint, etc. furthermore this solution will not suit a gaming PC used for Microsoft supported games.

The LINUX solution is ideal for a office environment with stand alone PC's or full network solutions. We can provide the solutions from the workstation up to the server.

Cost
The cost of this solution is based on time, as the Linux software is FREE unlike Microsoft.

For The future
There are several Emulators available to Linux, an emulator is a piece of software that will emulate e.g. a Microsoft environment allowing you to run windows software on Linux however this is still in the infancy stage and it will still be a while before this type of software is fully operational.
